Tetritskaro:Â Giorgi Tsiklauri the Mayor of Tetritskaro Municipality together with representatives of local self-government attended a third forum to raise awareness about the new water resources management law at the Bolnisi Museum.
It is to be added that the Committee for Environment and Natural Resources of the Parliament of Georgia is actively working together with the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia. They discussed the issue of providing information to local governments about the new law on water resources management as well.
It is to be specifically mentioned that the forum was opened and addressed by State Commissioner Giorgi Dokhturishvili, Chairman of the Committee for Environment Protection and Natural Resources Maia Bitadze, Majoritarian MP of Bolnisi, Dmanisi, Tetritskaro and Tsalki, Gogi Meshveliani and Deputy Head of the USAID Economic Management Program Nino Chokhel.
Nino Tkhilava who is the head of the Department of Environment and Climate Change of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture introduced the participants of the meeting to the current situation in the country. He also discussed the latest law in terms of water resources management. He spoke about the measures being implemented at different stages of law enforcement.
It is noteworthy that the new water resources management law establishes modern standards for the management and consumption of water resources.Â
Its goal is to protect water resources, improve the condition of water facilities, and introduce a water basin management system in the country. In addition the new law will promote the equitable distribution of water resources across the country.
The forum was also attended by members of Parliament, the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture, representative of Lower Kartli side local self-government, business, non-governmental sector and civil society.
The ongoing process is supported by the economic Governance Program of the United States Development Agency which together with the NGO “Environment and Development” is implementing the project “Promoting the Implementation of the Law Requirements of Water Resources Management and Raising Information in the Municipalities of Georgia”.
