Green Award 2025: Teachers Honored in Georgia

The Environmental Information and Education Center of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture announced the winners of the "Green Award" of 2025 competition.

Georgia: The Environmental Information and Education Center of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture announced the winners of the “Green Award” of 2025 competition.

The nomination “Green Award – Environmental Education in Preschool” was won by Gulnara Buadze, a kindergarten educator in the village of Kutiri of Khoni municipality, and the “Green Award – Environment and Agrarian Education in School” was given to Shorena Karalashvili, a teacher of Akhalsopli village N2 Public School in Kvarli municipality.

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture David Songulashvili congratulated the winners on their well-deserved success. During the welcome speech, the Minister focused on the role of teachers in creating environmental awareness.

Minister Songhulashvili noted,” Today and this award have special meaning. Civic responsibility is formed from an early age; therefore, the role of each teacher is critical – starting from kindergarten to school.”

He stated, “I would like to express my special thanks to all the teachers who contribute to the value formation of young people and civil society development. “I would like to wish more teachers to be involved in this process because they are the ones who shape the healthy future of our country,” David Songulashvili added.

The event was attended by Alexander Tsuladze, Minister of Education, Science and Youth, who in his speech spoke about the importance of implementing environmental education in schools.

“Environmental education and awareness raising is one of our main priorities. “Green Award” is an important initiative, that the Ministry of Education will always support. Our goal is to raise a new generation in Georgia, who carries healthy values. Integrating environmental education in schools and focusing attention on environmental protection issues serves exactly this goal,” Alexander Tsuladze said.

The event was also attended by Maia Bitadze, Chairman of the Committee on Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of the Parliament of Georgia.

“Green Award” is a kind of encouraging initiative that promotes environmental education and youth awareness. Teachers have an important role, both in preschool and at school, to prepare the next generation better for the global and local environmental challenges that we are facing today,” said Maia Bitadze.
