Ilia Darchiashvili, the foreign minister of Georgia met with his Belgian counterpart Hadja Lahbib. The Georgian minister met her during his visit to Washington for the NATO 75th summit.
It is worth noting that the 75th anniversary of NATO is taking place in Washington, the capital city of the United States of America, from Tuesday to Thursday. The meeting took place on Wednesday. Hadja Lahbib is the Belgium Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Affairs.
The bilateral meeting between the Foreign Minister of Georgia and Belgium discussed many aspects of the bilateral issues. They also underlined the measures that need to be implemented for the enhancement of bilateral relations.
The meeting of foreign minister also focused on the importance of the NATO Summit and other topics. Some of the other topics included in the bloc’s agenda are increasing, growing challenges to the international security and peace. The steps required to boost the international peace and order also discussed in detailed as well
The meeting also stress the Georgia’s progress into the European Union. Notably, the Europan Council has granted Georgia the status of candidate country. This is seen as the first step towards the full fledged membership of Georgia into the European Union.
The diplomats from both countries have further highlighted Georgia as an “important and reliable partner”. They have also discussed how to boost alliances in the Black Sea region for the betterment of the security scenario of the Euro-Atlantic area.
The foreign office of Georgia commenting on the development said that it was a great discussion and both have discussed European integration while underscoring the granting of European Union membership candidate status in 2023. The status of candidate country has taken Georgia’s relation with the European Union to new Heights as well.
Darchiashvili, while speaking specifically during the interaction with his Belgium counterpart, focussed on the “ongoing processes and challenges” of Georgia’s integration and how to speed up the process with immediate effects as well.
