Italian language teachers in Georgia can now pass cognitive exams

Tbilisi: In alignment with the decision of the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Giorgi Amilakhvari, from 2023, Italian teachers will be given the opportunity to pass the cognitive exams. The Georgian Education Minister held a meeting with the Italian language teachers of the public schools of Georgia within the framework of the event organized by the Italian Embassy.

Tbilisi: In alignment with the decision of the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Giorgi Amilakhvari, from 2023, Italian teachers will be given the opportunity to pass the cognitive exams. The Georgian Education Minister held a meeting with the Italian language teachers of the public schools of Georgia within the framework of the event organized by the Italian Embassy.

Giorgi Amilakhvari addressed the audience and focused on the importance of strengthening Italian language teaching in Georgia.

Strengthening European languages, including Italian, is important on the way to integrate with the European Union. The Georgian Ministry of Education and Science is actively working in this direction and with our decision, from 2023, Italian language teachers will be given the opportunity to pass cognitive exams, which will help their professional development.

We, in close cooperation with the Italian Embassy, will continue to support the strengthening of the Italian language in public schools of Georgia”,  noted the Georgian Minister of education.

During the event, the guests were also addressed by the Italian Ambassador to Georgia, Enrico Valvo, the Director of the National Center for Professional Development of Teachers, Berika Shukakidze and the Director of the National Center for Assessment and Exams, Sophia Gorgodze.

From 2023 the order of the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia on “approving the rule of conduct of subject and professional skills exams” has been amended, according to which Italian language teachers are allowed to pass cognitive exams. Italian language test assignments were developed by Italian language teaching coordinator Minerva and handed over to the National Center for Professional Development of Teachers within the framework of Memorandum.

Italian language cognitive exam will be held from August 25 to September 10 this year – the process will be administered by the National Center for Assessment and Examinations.

The teaching of Italian as a second foreign language started in the public schools of Georgia from the 2018-2019 school year, with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, the efforts of the Italian Embassy and the cooperation with the Georgian-Italian educational organization Minerva.
