A summary meeting of the project “Monitoring and Management of Blueberry Gardens in Georgian Conditions” was held at the Jighaura base of the Scientific-Research Center of the SCP Agriculture. Participants became acquainted with the project’s results and the practical recommendations prepared for farmers.

The meeting was attended by Levan Ujmajuridze, the director of the Agricultural Scientific and Research Center, as well as representatives of the Center’s relevant services and researchers involved in the project.

“Blueberry production is one of the most promising and fastest-growing directions in Georgia. Therefore, it is critical to provide farmers with recommendations based on scientific research. Our goal is to help manufacturers with effective management of gardens and competitive production of international standards by applying modern agrotechnologies, noted Levan Ujmajuridze.

Research conducted within the project was carried out in the main regions of blueberry production in West Georgia – Guria, Samegrelo, Adjara, and Imereti municipalities. The study included agrobiocenological monitoring, identification of harmful organisms and their spread assessment, as well as the study of the pH, organic substance content, and food elements of the soil’s main agrochemical indicators.

Within the scope of the project, the phytosanitary condition and soil fertility of the blueberry gardens were studied in detail. As a result of the study, harmful organisms of economic importance were identified, their area of spread was assessed, and effective management schemes were developed.

“Practical recommendations and optimized pest control schemes prepared by us will help farmers manage their gardens correctly. This knowledge will allow them to get maximum quality and safe crops with minimum expenditure, said Lali Tsivilashvili, senior specialist of the Department of Integrated Plant Protection Research and Project Head. Based on the results of the research, effective ways to fight harmful diseases were selected, and practical recommendations were prepared for farmers.

The project of Shota Rustaveli was implemented with the financial support of the Fundamental Research Grant of the National Scientific Foundation of Georgia. The results will contribute to the effective management of blueberry gardens in Georgia, optimization of plant protection measures, improvement of production quality, and increase yields.
