The director of the Scientific and Research Center of Agriculture of SIP, Levan Ujmajuridze, together with the Minister of Agriculture of Adjara, Denis Salukvadze, held an information meeting with potato farmers in Khulo municipality.
The Scientific Research Center for Agriculture (SRCA) of Georgia shared the glimpses of the meeting on its Official Facebook Page on May 22, 2026, Friday. The SRCA also shared the glimpses of the meeting along with its glimpses.
This year, the meeting was related to the transmission of non-virus Georgian breed superlite fertilizer material for farmers in the Adjara Highlands Region by the SC Agricultural Scientific and Research Center for Agriculture, and the purpose of introducing farmers to agrotechnological recommendations and promoting quality seed material production.
Within the framework of the project, potato seedling material, which is a local plant genetic resource, was distributed among farmers. The mentioned should be used for conservation, research, and conservation purposes of local species.
During the meeting, the farmers were given detailed information about potato varieties provided by the Center, production of certified material, agro-biological characteristics, agrotechnical measures, disease management, and specifics of high-altitude care.
During the meeting, Levan Ujmajuridze spoke about the main aspects of the scientific and research center and focused on the priorities of the center, including the importance of restoration of Georgian local breeds, primary farming, development of construction activities, and preservation of traditional cultures in the regions of origin.
“It is important for the Scientific and Research Center to support farmers both with quality crops and seed materials, as well as by sharing knowledge and practical experience.” “We are actively working towards the restoration of Georgian local species of plants and animals, to strengthen local production and, with the use of modern technologies, to preserve our agronomic heritage,” noted Levan Ujmajuridze.
The meeting was attended by Irma Abkhazava, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Adjara, local government representatives, field specialists, and potato farmers.
