Tbilisi: The statement released by the chairman of the Georgian Dream ruling party, Irakli Kobakhidze, about holding a referendum on the opening of the second front for Russia had left the de facto authorities in Georgia’s Russian occupied Abkhazia seriously worried about the situation.

However, Kobakhidze has already clarified that the statement was totally sarcastic and no such initiative has been launched.

The representatives of the breakaway region discussed the issue on September 14, while the meeting with co-chairs of General International Discussions on Georgia’s conflict issues, with de facto deputy minister of foreign affairs, Irakli Tuzhba stated that the situation in Sokhumi is being closely monitored along with the internal political process in Georgia and the recent statement issued by Kobakhidze.

“We all understand well what is meant by the second front, and it seriously worries us,” Tuzhba said. He further urged the co-chairs to ‘react to such threats’ as it poses a major threat to stability and security in the region.

Looking at the threat, the de facto deputy minister pointed out the recent Noble Partner exercises held in the Georgian capital, Tbilisi.

On September 13, Kobakhidze once again accused the high-ranking officials of the Ukrainian government of intending to drag Georgia in the military conflicts. He stated that they could conduct a poll or a plebiscite to know if people wanted to open a new front in Georgia or not. We can follow that, and the people’s views regarding the concern will be known.

Such a statement from the chairman of the Georgian Dream ruling party, Kobakhidze has caused confusion and instability outside the country.
