Georgia: With the financial support of the Georgian Ministry of Education, Science and Youth and the organization of Kutaisi International University (KIU), Kutaisi hosted the 8th European Olympiad (EuPhO 2024).
The closing of the Olympics and the awarding of the winners were held in the ceremonial hall of Akaki Tsereteli State University, where Tamar Makharashvili, Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia, took part.
The Deputy Minister addressed the public, congratulated the participants on their success in the Olympics, and thanked them for their interest and involvement.
The Georgian team’s performance at the 2024 Physics Olympics was nothing short of remarkable. Luka Unavadze’s gold, Tornike Tsadzikidze’s silver, and Tsotne Giorgadze’s bronze medals are a testament to their hard work and dedication.
This year’s Olympics was a truly international event, with over 400 representatives from 55 countries coming together in Kutaisi. They lived and competed at Kutaisi University for a week, fostering a sense of global camaraderie. The various cognitive events planned for the guests further enriched the experience.
The European Olympiad in Physics (EuPhO 2024) is one of the most prestigious and successful tournaments in the educational and scientific space. It was founded eight years ago in Estonia. Over the years, the Olympiad has exposed several talented and distinguished young people.
With the Ministry’s financial support, the Georgian team has already participated for the sixth time in this Olympics.
Georgian students have won twenty-two medals, including two gold, eleven silver, and nine bronze. In 2022, the Georgian team won two gold, one silver, and two bronze medals among 37 participating countries, one of the best results during the Olympics.
The success of EuPhO 2024 was made possible with the generous support of the International Charity Foundation ‘Kartu ‘, who played a crucial role as the event’s supporter.
