Kutaisi, Georgia: An award ceremony for students was held at Kutaisi International University (KIU) on October 20, 2024, where 335 young people were given computers.
Alexander Tsuladze, the Minister of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia, presented a speech to the community attending the event, who congratulated the youth on their success and thanked their teachers and parents.
During his speech, the minister also spoke about the importance of founding the Kutaisi International University and focused on its development prospects.Â
The Regional Development and Infrastructure Minister Irakli Karseladze, Kutaisi Majoritarian MP Zaza Lominadze, and Rector of Kutaisi International University (KIU) Giorgi Khubua also spoke at the event.
As part of the award ceremony, the Rector of KIU, George Khubua, introduced the society with the Children’s University, which will offer weekend lectures to pupils of 9-12 grades of public and private general education institutions in Imereti region.
Selective courses on different cognitive and scientific topics will be read by both KIU professors and invited lecturers. This project will encourage young people, along with formal education, to raise awareness about higher education, which will help students in deciding on their future profession.
The Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia, Gela Geladze, the Head of Educational and Scientific Infrastructure Development Agency, Irakli Kuprava, and the Deputy State Commissioner on the Imereti side, Levan Kiknavelidze, were also present at the ceremony to award students.
Computers present in the framework of the program “My First Computer” will be given computers annually. The program aims to motivate students and strengthen schools’ IT-based learning/ teaching methods. In the Imereti region, there are 958 pupils this year, from here in Kutaisi – 335.
Every year, computers are handed over to public school students who have finished the primary level (7th, 8th, and 9th grades) with attendance. Last year, there were 4,846 students in Georgia, and this year, there are 4,956 students.
