Kutaisi International University hosts WIPO Head Viktor Ovade

The Head of Academic Institutes and Executive Programs of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Academy, Viktor Ovade, visited Kutaisi International University (KIU), together with the Chairman of Sakpatent, Soso Giorgadze, on a working visit.

The Head of Academic Institutes and Executive Programs of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Academy, Viktor Ovade, visited Kutaisi International University (KIU), together with the Chairman of Sakpatent, Soso Giorgadze, on a working visit.

At the meeting with the acting rector of KIU, Vakhtang Tsagareli, the director of Kutaisi University, the parties discussed the current and the strategies for the further development of the jointly implemented master’s program “Intellectual Property, Innovation and Entrepreneurship”. The meeting was attended by KIU Chancellor Levan Kopaliani and Pro-Chancellor Paata Turava.

During the visit, the first meeting of the Master’s Program Development Committee was held with the participation of the representatives of KIU, Sakpatent, and WIPO, where the members of the committee discussed the issues related to the study process. This committee represents the main governing body responsible for the program’s running and management.

Also, Victor Ovade and the representatives of Sakpatent visited the ultra-modern campus of Kutaisi International University, got to know the future infrastructural possibilities of the university, and the educational environment available for the implementation of the program.

A meeting was held with the students of the master’s program, who were attending the lecture courses provided by the program during this period.

These lectures were delivered by international lecturers invited by WIPO – Professor Dominique Fédérale de Lausanne EPFL, from the Swiss Federal University of Technology (École Polytechnique Fédárale de Lausanne EPFL), and Assistant Professor Gaetan Rasenfoss.

Notably, the master’s program “Intellectual Property, Innovation and Entrepreneurship” was established in Geneva based on a trilateral memorandum signed between WIPO, KIU, and Capatent.

This is an international master’s program, which has no analogues in the region, where education is led with Georgian colleagues by foreign, highly qualified professors selected by the WIPO Academy.

It is important that graduates of the Master’s programme will be awarded a Master’s degree in Business Administration in Intellectual Property and Innovation Management.
