Director Elene Mikaberidze’s documentary film “Blueberry Dreams” is set to Premiere in Kutaisi at KISFF (Kutaisi International Short Film Festival). October 6 has been selected for the premiere of the documentary.

The 2024 Based film revolves around a Georgian family that begins to sow blueberries in Russia-backed Abkhazia. After some time the family finds it difficult to continue farming.

The story tells us about a family of Soso  who  along with his wife Nino and two sons plans to grow blueberries in the Abkhazia region. They made this decision as the Georgian government initiated a particular program, “Plant the Future ” to bring stability to this region.

As per the film’s story Soso who is a  retired engineer  visits Abkhazia with their wife and two sons, Giorgi and Lazare. However they dreamt of starting a new life here, old memories of prolonged conflicts haunted Nino. Soso’s wife was also concerned about the safety of her two sons.

A minor twist in the story came when the sons of the couple decided to leave the region. They decided to visit a safer place despite Soso’s desire to remain there. The decision of the two sons was backed by their fear that there was no scope for permanent peace and stability here. So  they found the program “Plant the Future ” not as favourable as it seemed in the beginning.

It is worth noting that some parts of the film also contain glimpses of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the excitement that war survivors have while remembering their previous traumas. The film was nominated for the CPH:DOX and AJB Doc film festivals  respectively. Notably it received a special jury mention at the Odessa Film Festival.

The film will be screened in the fourth hall of the Georgian cinema at 17:00. The audience can enjoy the premier without any cost  as entry is totally free. The main objective of this festival is to search for young talent in the country who have the potential to achieve success in Cinema. It also aims to highlight the importance of short films and documentaries.
