The Chairman of the European Integration Committee, Maka Bochorishvili, met with Ondržej Benesik, the Chairman of the Committee on European Affairs of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament, and the Deputy Chairman of the European Affairs Committee and the head of the Friendship Group with the Parliament of Georgia, Ondržej Kolarj within the framework of his working visit to the Czech Republic.
The parties discussed the priorities of the Czech Presidency of the Council of the European Union and the importance for Georgia of receiving the status of a candidate country of the European Union.
Maka Bochorishvili spoke about the agenda of Georgia-EU cooperation, future plans, and the need to support the Czech Republic for the status of a candidate country in light of the current situation in the region.
Ondrzej Benesik and Ondrzej Kolarj confirmed their firm and unconditional support for Georgia’s European aspirations and the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and their willingness to deepen the intensive political dialogue with Georgia.
He noted that during the presidency of the Council of the European Union, the Czech Republic will pay special attention to the issue of Georgia, and during its presidency, it will spare no effort in the direction of achieving further progress in terms of Georgia’s accession to the European Union.
At the meeting, the parties focused on the security challenges created in the region against the background of Russia’s ongoing aggression in Ukraine, future threats from Russia and the current situation in the occupied territories of Georgia.
The conversation also touched on the prospects of deepening parliamentary relations between the two countries in bilateral and multilateral formats.
Maka Bochorishvili thanked his Czech colleagues for the invitation to the meeting of the chairmen of the Conference of European Affairs Committees of the European Union Parliaments (COSAC) in Prague and invited him to Georgia.
