International Water Resources Protection Day
The UN Assembly, since 1993, has declared 22 March as the International Water Resources Protection Day, a day established to remind everyone the importance of preserving and protecting water resources. This day is also celebrated as World Water Day.
The theme of World Water Day this year is ‘Glacier Preservation’, highlighting the role of glaciers in maintaining global freshwater supplies and the urgent need for conservation measures in the face of climate change.
The glaciers can be preserved by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, implementation of sustainable tourism and land use, and by reducing black carbon emissions. These initiatives will help slow down glacier melting.
