Georgia: A regular working meeting was held within the framework of the Agricultural Scientific and Research Center and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) joint projectEconomic Assessment of Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Measures“.

It is noteworthy that mitigation measures are those actions that are taken to reduce and curb greenhouse gas emissions, while adaptation measures are based on reducing vulnerability to the effects of climate change. Mitigation, therefore, attends to the causes of climate change, while adaptation addresses its impacts.

The Scientific Research Center for Agriculture (SRCA) shared glimpses of the regular working meeting on its official Facebook page on February 28, 2025, Friday. SRCA’s Facebook page also mentioned some details about the meeting in a short note.

According to the details shared by SRCA, it should be noted that the participants of the meeting talked about the methodological and practical issues of determining irrigation water requirements.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss targeted methodological and practical issues necessary for the implementation of the project.

Additionally, simulation models of the impact of climate change on leading crops such as apples, grapes, wheat, and others were discussed. It should also be noted that the simulations were developed based on different agroeconomic approaches.

It is worth noting that the working group meeting was attended by staff from the Agricultural Scientific and Research Centre’s profile service, as well as local and invited international experts of the project – researchers from Cranfield University (UK) – Joe Morris and Tim Hess.

The main goal of the event was to create a modern model for cost-use calculation and assessment based on climate change impact assessment, which will contribute to developing sustainable production management strategies in agriculture and optimal decision-making.
