Meskhuri Folklore Volume II Presented at Samtskhe-Javakheti State University

Scientific Library of the Samtskhe-Javakheti State University hosted the presentation of the second volume of “Meskhuri Folklore”, a collection of folk songs, tales, proverbs, and riddles from the Meskheti region of Georgia.

December 22, 2023: The Scientific Library of the Samtskhe-Javakheti State University hosted the presentation of the second volume of “Meskhuri Folklore”, a collection of folk songs, tales, proverbs, and riddles from the Meskheti region of Georgia.

It should be noted that the publication of the book II volume was supported by the State Commissioner of Samtskhe-Javakheti Besik Amiranashvili, the majority deputy of Akhaltsikhe, Adigeni, Borjomi and Aspindza Anton Obolashvili, as well as the author was supported by the City Hall of the six municipalities of the region.

The book is the result of years of research and documentation by Avtandil Beridze, a professor of folklore and ethnography at the university. Beridze has collected and analyzed hundreds of folklore materials from the Meskhetian people with a rich and diverse cultural heritage.

The presentation was attended by scholars, students, journalists, and local community representatives, who praised the value and significance of the book for preserving and promoting the Meskhetian folklore. The attendees also enjoyed the poetry samples from the book, which were recited by the students with artistic expression.

The attending community said a lot about the specifics of working on folklore, the value of the book and the merit of Avtandil Beridze, who worked hard and focused on the folklore materials scattered among the people. Great appreciation also goes to the poetry samples included in the II volume of “Meskhuri Folklore”, artfully read by the students.

Beridze thanked all the supporters and contributors of the book and announced that he is working on the third volume of “Meskhuri Folklore”, which will be published in 2024. He hopes his work will inspire more interest and appreciation for the Meskhetian culture and traditions.

The work is also underway on the materials of the third volume of “Meskhuri Folklore”, which the reading society will receive in 2024
