Tbilisi: Solomon Pavliashvili, the Deputy Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture visited the Tea festival being held at Mtatsmindi Park. He announced that Government’s effort to promote Georgian tea will continue in the future.
This tea festival is being held in Georgia since 2005. Its goal is to popularise Georgian tea and support tea producers worldwide. According to the deputy minister, the state implements many programs to support Georgian tea producers and it will continue in the future.
Solomon Pavliashvili while speaking on this occasion added, “Tea festival is a good platform for tea producers to promote their products. Our main task is encouraging exports and finding new markets beyond the Caucasus region. The state is actively involved in promoting Georgian tea exports.”
He furter addes “ To promote Georgian tea, the state is implementing the tea rehabilitation program; within the framework of this program, more than 1200 ha of tea plantations have already been planted. Along with this we also help farmers with appropriate equipment.”
The Georgian Tea Festival was organized by the Association of Tea Producers and supported by the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture. At the same time about 20 producers of Georgian tea and honey took part in it.
According to Tengiz Svanidze the head of the Association of Tea Producers, Georgian tea is becoming increasingly popular in the local market. Today, it occupies 25% of the market which reflects the high quality of the tea.
Tengiz Svanidze has expressed a similar view, adding that, Georgian tea especially in recent years is very high quality and competitive. In terms of quality it is not inferior to any foreign tea in some cases, it is even better. Georgian tea has a great perspective on the development of the Georgian economy.
He also added that the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture’s support in this direction is indisputable. The state program for the rehabilitation of tea plantations has been ongoing for several years, which has significantly helped the industry’s development. Georgian tea producer welcome similar events from the ministry and extend their gratitude.
