The National Center of Cinematography congratulates the famous director and screenwriter Giorgi Ovashvili on his 60th birth anniversary. They wish him health and longevity.

Giorgi Ovashvili’s work includes several exciting and successful projects. His debut, most memorable and beloved full-length Film, “Open Shore” (2008), took part in more than 80 international film festivals and won over 50 awards (including Seattle, Wisbaden, Granada, Yerevan and other international film festivals).

His film “Corn Island” (2014) won the Karlovy Vary (Czech Republic) International Film Festival. It was shortlisted for the American Film Academy Award for “Oscar” nomination – “Best Foreign Film” – among the nine best films of the year. “Corn Island” won the Grand Prix at Montpellier (France), Split (Croatia) and Anapi (Russia) film festivals as well.

Giorgi Ovashvili shot full-length films “Khibula” (2017) and “Beautiful Helen” (2022). He is often the scriptwriter and producer of his movies.

G. Ovashvili is the director of a number of exciting and different style documentaries and short films that have received international awards.

These films are: “A Very Little Story” (1995), “Wagonet” (1996, Special Prize at the Kyiv Film Festival “Modost”, 1996), “Mirage” (doc. Film, 1999), “River” (doc. Film, 2003, Prize “Golden Tray”, International Film Festival on Kish Island, Iran, 2005), “From the Sea Level” (2004; Main Prize “Golden Assilah” I International Film Festival (2004), New York Film Academy Prize Berlin International Film Festival, Special Prize Jury at Odense International Film Festival, Main Prize “Didori” Dushanbe I International Movie Festival (2005), “Connection” (2005).

Giorgi Ovashvili was the director of the “Georgian Television” company (1998-2002) and various private TV companies. He is a film Director, film producer, Former film director and a producer at Cinema. He is also a director at Wagonnet Films. He worked at Cinema and TV. He lives in Tbilisi, Georgia.
