The officials of the National Statistics Services of Georgia convened a meeting with the Government of Samtskhe-Javakheti and Kvemo Kartli regions on October 19-20 in Borjomi.
This significant meeting was made possible with the generous financial support of international UN Women organisation.
The external working meeting, which saw the participation of representatives from the regional administrations of Samtskhe-Javakheti and Kvemo Kartli region, as well as all municipalities was expertly led by the executive director of Sakstat, Gogita Todradze.
It is to be added that during the two-day workshop, the participants got acquainted with the results of the research conducted by Saxstat on gender statistics, namely the methodological review and main findings of the time use survey and the national survey of violence against women.
The issues facing the portal of regional and municipal statistics were also discussed, along with the main directions for the development of Georgia’s statistical system, the products developed by Saxstat, the developed services and future plans.
In addition methodological features of calculating statistical indicators and issues related to their use were discussed by all the participants of the meeting.
Various gender statistical indicators and data needs were discussed in the planning and decision-making process as well measures which will be used by the office for better implementation of the all data.
At the meeting, Tamar Frangishvili, the project coordinator of the National Association of Local Self-Governments (ATEA) presented the specific presentation “Gender statistics and its importance for municipalities: a minimum list of indicators.”
During the meeting the participants discussed the needs related to statistical data at the municipal level and discussed the possibilities of incorporating them into Saxstat’s future plans.
The officials and representatives of the local governments also shared their views with the officials of the Saxtat office. It is worth noting that the office’s data can also be used by various government agencies to formulate better policies for public welfare.
