Musical Tribute to Inola Gurgulia’s Legacy

The premiere of the musical performance – “Dream or Reality” – was held in the theatre for the teen audience, the Professional State Theater of Young Audience, named after Nodar Dumbadze, with the support of the Ministry of Culture of Georgia.

It was created on the motives of the same name by the prominent Georgian author-performer, musician, poet and translator, Inola Gurgulia. Georgian Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth Thea Tsulukiani attended the event.

The performance was dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the birth of Inola Gurgulia.

“Dream or Reality” is the winning project of the Georgian Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth – “Children’s Musical/Ballet Performances/Promotion at Other Costs”.

Music director of the project, daughter of the composer, actor and singer Ia Shugliashvili; producer and author of the scenes Dimitri Khvtisiashvili; painter – Nino Chitaishvili; choreographer – Gia Marghania; animation of the performance based on Inola Gurgulia’s essay “Zhapri” was created by Andria Maisashvili. The author of orchestral versions of songs is musician Temur Maisashvili. The play is attended by both young audience theatre actors and children, including descendants of Inola Gurgulia.

“Dream or Reality” expresses the immortality of love, humanity, kindness and faith and presents the eternal values that the beloved and distinguished artist Inola Gurgulia committed through his life and work.

Twenty-two works of the composer were performed live in the performance: “It’s a Dream”, “I Want a Boat”, “For You”, “Pink Lips of Peach”, “With You”, “Sorrow has crept in Your eyes”, “Faith”, “Odelia-Dela”, “Sakanela”, “That night it snowed” and others. Songs performed by the composer himself were also played on the musical performance: “Human”, “Love Makes Me Drunk”, “That’s What It Suits You”, and others.

“Dream or Reality” will be played on the stage of the theatre’s young audience on December 16 and 22. Performance must remain in the theatre repertoire of young audiences. An exhibition was opened in the theatre foyer on the premiere day.

The project in the competition of the Ministry of Culture – “Promotion of museum activities in dramatic theatres under the ministry’s administration” – was implemented as a result of the victory.

The exhibition features reconstructed posters from the 1930s and sketches of famous scenographers, which are museum exhibits of the theatre and their restoration was made possible thanks to the project above.
