Otar Shamugia participates in ministerial meetings by OIV in Brescha

Georgia: The Minister of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia, Otar Shamugia, gave a speech at the Ministerial on the 100th Anniversary of the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV).

The Georgian Minister participated in the Ministerial Meeting organized by the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV) in Brescha, Republic of Italy, where about 40 countries’ ministers and high officials were present.

In his speech, Otar Shamugia focused on the progress achieved in winemaking over the past ten years. He also noted that Georgia participates in this ministerial position as a candidate for EU membership, and this is a worthy success for our country.

The International Organization of Grape and Wine celebrates its 100th anniversary with various events this year. Notable among them is the ongoing ministerial ministry in Brescha, which was held by OIV for the first time.

Representatives of wine-producing countries discussed topical priorities of the vineyard-winery sector, including implementing sustainable production practices, genetic diversity of planting material, and climate change on producing quality products; research and analysis of new market opportunities remains a crucial challenge for wine-producing nations.

The balance between demand and supply and, of course, community awareness. Raising awareness of wine values and its traditions will ensure continued demand for quality wine.

Georgia’s enduring partnership with the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV), spanning several decades, is a testament to the country’s unwavering commitment to the wine industry.

Notably, Georgia has hosted OIV’s International Vineyard-Winemaking Forum twice – in 1962 for the 33rd International Congress and in 2010 for the 8th General Assembly of OIV. This deep-rooted collaboration is further evidenced by the inclusion of 8 Georgian wines in the prestigious list of special wines of OIV.

At the ministerial meeting held in the Republic of Italy, Levan Mekhuzla, Chairman of the National Wine Agency and Consulate General of Georgia Natalia Kordzaia were also present.
