Georgia: The Municipal Development Fund of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure implements various infrastructural projects for the European Winter Youth Olympic Festival in Tbilisi and Bakuriani.
For the European Winter Youth Olympic Festival, which Georgia will host in February 2025, a biathlon and cross-country track are being organized in Daba Bakuriani. In Tbilisi, an Ice Palace is being built, with a high-level technical training stadium for hockey, figure skating, and curling. Both projects will be completed by the end of this year.
The international standard Tbilisi Ice Palace is counted for 700 viewers. The palace building will have an ice rink (60mX30), training, choreographic, and dressing rooms, sitting rooms, a conference hall, inventory storage, restrooms, medical rooms, and wet spots. Also, there is a cafe with a panoramic view of the square, parking, and a recreational area.
A cooling system is installed in the building, which provides different temperature regulations according to international standards. Together with cooling the ice sheet, it regulates the humidity level and the heating of the audience’s space. Two boards and a lighting system will be installed on the square.
The Ice Palace is equipped with modern (European production) two units of ice rink care and polishing machine equipment. It also has a specialized insulated floor covering, through which, without melting the ice sheet, the field can serve summer sports and other events (basketball, mini soccer, volleyball, etc.
The multifunctional sports complex will be fully adapted for people with disabilities.
A Czech company provides the equipment and installation of the Ice Palace using the latest relevant technologies according to international standards.
To share his experience, Giorgi Tsibadze, the First Deputy Executive Director of the Municipal Development Foundation, visited the ice rinks of the Czech Republic and Turkey and met with the representatives of the Czech Hockey Federation. Czech specialists on the Georgian side shared their experience in modern construction technologies and post-care of ice rinks. Also, arenas and technical or training grounds for high-level championships were introduced.
Hosting the European Winter Youth Festival and building new infrastructure will contribute to the country’s development in winter sports and tourism.
