In his speech, Tamar Taliashvili emphasized the importance of the history contest – “30 years after the Soviet Union” for Georgia. According to him, for our country, 20 percent of which is occupied, and at a time when Russia’s aggression in the region has created unprecedented challenges in terms of peace and security, it is very important to correctly convey and analyze recent history.

“Our goal is to give a special and appropriate place to the teaching of history because patriotism, critical analysis and free-thinking skills are significantly dependent on a full understanding of this subject. Last year, Georgia became a member of the History Teaching Observatory of the Council of Europe. The activation of Georgia on this platform will be very important not only for our education system but also for the country’s European perspective,” said Tamar Taliashvili.

Within the framework of the competition, topics were selected for both teacher training and student competitions.

The project was implemented simultaneously in five countries: Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Georgia and Armenia.
