Iuri Nozadze, who is the Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture Iuri Nozadze, along with Chairman of the Agency of Protected Areas David Iosebashvili, explained about the work done in 2023. They were speaking at the meeting held with the directors of territorial administrations of the Agency of the Protected Areas and heads of the service of the Republic of Georgia.
As per the information provided by them during the current year of 2023, work on the preparation and rehabilitation of ecotourism infrastructure has been carried out in protected areas continuously. Due to this preparation and rehabilitation work the travel has become even more diverse and interesting.
It is to be specifically mentioned that as the result of Efforts of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture and Agency of Protected Areas this year, the number of visitors to protected areas has already exceeded 1 million, which is one of the important achievements. This Number of Visitors are Expected to increase heavily in future as well with the initiatives of Both Environment Protection and the Agriculture Ministry as well as the Agency of Protected areas.
Representatives on this occasion also underlined the direction of international cooperation of the Agency of Protected Territories. Under these directions this year the most important international summit in Georgia was successfully implemented. That hsitoric and important summit was attended by 80 delegates from 20 countries with representatives of protected areas and environmental organisations.
The official of the Environment Ministry also stressed that Biodiversity promotion and its protection and monitoring are priorities of the Agency of Protected Areas. Participants of the meeting also discussed the challenges and needs of nature conservation of Biodiversity.
The official also said that the Agency of Protected Areas would continue to plan and implement important projects in the direction of biodiversity protection, expansion of protected areas, and development of ecotourism.
The key speakers of the occasion also said that with the mutual collaboration of the Ministry and Agency of Protected Areas, there are a number of Environmental projects which have been successfully implemented. They also stressed that more environmentally friendly policies and laws are needed of the hour.
There are also some plan being discussed to expand the area under the Protected area. The joint effort by government and non-government agencies and organisations was underlined by all the participants in the meeting. They also called to spread awareness among the general public regarding environmental protection.
The representative of the agency stated further that they are ready to implement all the directions and instructions of the Government in its letter and spirit. The agency is committed to safeguarding the Protected areas with full dedication and Determination.
