Finance Minister of Georgia Lasha Khutsishvili made clear that the fight against misinformation will continue. He was talking about misinformation and fake news regarding the enforcement of sanctions mainly by politically motivated individuals aimed at Customs of the country.
The minister also added, “It is clear that the fight against misinformation is part of our work and all such facts will be answered in the future. “
According to him since the days of the beginning of Russia’s aggressive war against Ukraine a special group has been set up in the Revenue Service which constantly monitors the issue of sanctioned cargo and persons when goods move through the territory controlled by Georgia.
Lasha Khutsishvili also stated that after the imposition of sanctions we have recorded 1770 cases of refusal to return Georgia from customs borders and implementation of customs procedures.
Till today 36 operational risk profiles are active which automatically identifies sanction data and initiates additional risk factors. The work of our customs services in this direction is recognised by all partners in the country at the highest level.
During his speech the minister also highlighted Georgia’s increased transit opportunities. According to him in recent years despite geopolitical challenges the middle transit corridor over Georgia has become the most important logistic junction.
“Transit freight through Georgia is growing steadily which increases several times the burden of administration aimed at promoting legitimate trade. From now on the issue of accelerating the digital transformation of customs and the growth of institutional capabilities becomes very important the Finance Minister said.
Finance minster also added that “Our country is doing everything to achieve this great task on a national and regional scale.”
Electronic exchange of customs data is taking place with all our neighbouring strategic partner countries. A legal base has been created that allows for the use of a model of joint border control.
