The ruling party of the Republic of Georgia ,“Georgian Dream,” has nominated Irakli Kobakhidze as the new Prime Minister. He will lead the country as Irakli Garibashvili resigned from this post just a few days ago.

As per the legal provisions of Article 80 of the Georgian Constitution, Kobakhidze will need 76 votes through the way of a simple majority from all 150 members of the Georgian Parliament. This is required for final approval as Prime Minister of the country. Since the Georgian Dream party has a majority in the Parliament, it is expected that he will have no problem getting the approval and will become the prime Minnister without any hurdle.

At today’s Congress of the Georgian Dream Party, Irakli Garibashvili, the former Prime Minister of Georgia, who had resigned from his post on January 29, was endorsed by the Political Council as the Chairman of the “Georgian Dream” from today.

The meeting of the party representative goes up to 16 minutes. After being nominated as Prime Minister Irakli, Kobakhidze told journalists that all ministers would remain in office except for Defense Minister Juansher Burchuladze.

The defence minister, Burchuladze, is to be replaced by the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Irakli Chikovani. Kobakhidze said Burchuladze had expressed a desire to leave politics for another field, due to which this decision to replace him is being taken.

On the other hand, while speaking to journalists, Juansher Burchuladze also told journalists that he had been offered the post of Georgia’s next Ambassador to NATO, which he would “likely” accept.

Irakli Kobakhidze also took to his social media handle to inform the general public of this new development.

Your professionalism and kindness are recognised by your own opponents, which is already the key to victory.”
