Tbilisi: Maka Bochorishvil the chairman of the European Integration Committee met with the ambassador of the United States of America Robin Dunnigan. They talked about bilateral relations between both countries.
It is to be specifically mentioned that both sides discuss various directions and relations of strategic partnership between Georgia and the USA including the possibilities of developing parliamentary cooperation.
It is to be added that during the meeting Georgia’s progress on the path of integration into the European Union and the importance of the EU’s decision to grant the country candidate status were emphasised. The USA’s ambassador also congratulated on the grant of candidate status to the country.
Maka Bochorishvili informed the USA’s ambassador about the plan and future steps presented by the government regarding the implementation of the nine steps that have been defined by the European Commission for Georgia.
At the same time during the meeting with the ambassador the issue of Georgia’s integration into NATO was also discussed. However, the importance of US-Georgia relations and America’s support for the country’s euro-atlantic integration was emphasised and discussed by both sides as well.
The parties also discussed regional security issues. They further reviewed the situation in the occupied Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions and Russia’s threats to violate territorial integrity.
During the meeting they also discussed the agenda of the Georgian Parliament the domestic political situation current events and the parliamentary elections scheduled for 2024.
“It is important that relations between both countries be developed in all directions and taken to a higher level. We especially appreciate the contribution made by the United States of America in the process of our country’s move towards the European Union. It is important to continue cooperation in various directions, including economic aspects, strengthening bilateral relations and also supporting the process of Georgia’s integration into the European Union,” stated the chairman of the European integration committee.
Ambassador Maka Bochorishvili also congratulated Georgia on the status of a candidate country for European Union membership and expressed his readiness to support the process of further reforms.
On the other hand, USA’s Ambassador Robin Dunnigan stated that “America wants to see Georgia as a member of the European Union. We want to do everything to support Georgia in this process. The European integration committee and the chairman play a very important role in this process. We discussed how the United States can support the committee’s work in the nine-step process set up by the European Union.
