Nino Tandilashvili hosts third session of project “Save Nature – Georgia”

Georgia: The third session of the managing committee of the project “Save Nature – Georgia” was held in the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture. The third session of the project “Save Nature – Georgia” Steering Committee was chaired by the Chairman of the Committee, First Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture Nino Tandilashvili. 

The meeting was attended by the Head of Development Cooperation of the Swedish Embassy in Georgia, Deputy Head of Mission Eric Iles and Head of the Swedish Embassy Environmental Program Khatuna Zaldastanishvili.

Seven major components of the project were presented – biodiversity policy and legal framework, restoration and development of Chala forest, territory-based conservation, biodiversity mainstreaming, biodiversity monitoring, expansion of the national air quality monitoring system, strengthening institutional capabilities – implemented in the direction of achieving the goals Analysis of activities and results achieved; also discussed within the framework of the project 2024 Some activities planned for this year.

It should be mentioned, that the project “Save Nature-Georgia” funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) aims to develop the institutional capacity of the National Environmental Agency, the Wildlife Agency, and the Protected Areas Agency, with the main purpose to improve the efficiency of management and promote the sustainable management of Georgia’s natural resources.

The project “Save Nature Georgia” by the Georgian Ministry of Environment and Agriculture, supported by the Swedish Government’s International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), has been successfully running since 2021. The aim of the project is to improve sustainable management of natural resources in Georgia, promote the protection and restoration of biodiversity, strengthen the institutional capabilities of the Ministry and its agencies, for which a number of important activities are being implemented.

The working meeting was attended by the members of the project managing committee: Representatives of the relevant services of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture, Protected Areas, National Agencies of Environment and Wildlife, Georgian Society of Nature Researchers “Orkisi”, as well as members of the Central Implementing Unit of the Project “Save Nature – Georgia”.
