Georgia: Minister Tea Tsulukiani  Visit Evgeni Micheladze culture centre

Tea Tsulukiani the minister of sports and culture of Georia visited the  Evgeni Micheladze Central Music School. She met here with teachers and students to discuss the functioning of the school and plans as well.

The Minister has visited many schools in the last few months. This time the Minister visited the Central Music School named after Evgeni Mikeladze and met teachers and students together with the famous Georgian pianist Giorgi Vachnadze and his wife pianist Kiomi Sugimura.

During her visit to the schools, the minister thanked the director of the school Giorgi Korkadze for the work done so far to upgrade the educational process at a high level and make music education a priority.

On this occasion, a meeting was held with the teachers of the music school and the attention was focused on the necessity of closer cooperation of music schools with the Tbilisi State Conservatory and its new head, and on the possibilities of restoring upgraded music education.

It is to be specifically mentioned that Evgeni Mikeladze Central Music School is one of the most important centers of secondary vocational education in Georgia and it has gained authority and reputation based on many years of rich traditions and history.

The school was founded in 1922 and later it became famous as  Tbilisi Music School No. 9. In 1973 again on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the birth of the prominent Georgian conductor Evgeni Micheladze and the 50th anniversary of the school, the school was renamed after Evgeni Micheladze.

It is to be added that currently the piano, orchestral (string, wind), vocal, choral-conducting, and theoretical-composition departments are functioning in the school. Experienced and meritorious teachers are training the students and students successfully participate and win many national or international competitions ..

In the year 2022, the concert of the “Camerton” project in Kutaisi was financed within the framework of this competition. In September 2023 the “Boston” grand piano and the “Essex” piano were installed in the school for testing mode. In the same year, within the framework of the promotion of international festivals and master classes, the project “XII International Festival of Young Musicians-Performers “Borjomi 2023” was financed with 10,000 GEL.
