Georgian PM Irakli Kobakhidze meets German Ambassador

It is to be specifically mentioned that Georgia and Germany shared strong bilateral relations. The Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and Peter Fischer the German Ambassador to the country during a recent bilateral meeting discussed the existing partnership and positive dynamics on Tuesday.

This meeting was held at the Government Administration. On this occasion both sides reviewed Georgia’s progress on its path into the European Union while emphasising the significance of Germany’s political support in granting the country the bloc’s membership candidate status in December 2023.

The Prime Minister specifically thanked the German Ambassador on behalf of the country for unconditional support in granting Georgia status as a candidate country by the European Council last year.

Moreover Georgian Prime Minister Kobakhidze reaffirmed the Georgian Government’s commitment to European values and thanked the German diplomat for his country’s support.

The Prime Minister of Georgia and Ambassdor of Georgia also noted that the Georgian PM’s visit to Germany planned for the near future would be important. This visit of the German Prime Minister will contribute to further deepening bilateral relations and developing existing cooperation in various fields.

The German Ambassador also took to his social media handle and provided information in this regard. He posted on X (formerly Twitter) “Good meeting with @PM_Kobakhidze today. It’s fair to say we talked frankly about everything, particularly how to make the Georgia path towards the European Union smooth and fast as possible given the well-known requirements for joining the EU”.

Irakli Kobakhidze also added in his Facebook post, “I spoke to Germany’s Ambassador Peter Fisher about the existing partnership between Georgia and Germany and the positive dynamics of bilateral relations. Moreover I emphasised Germany’s important political support in the process of granting EU candidate status. I confirmed once again the Georgian government’s loyalty to European values. I thanked Peter Fisher for Germany’s firm support of Georgia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and denial policy”.
