The Prime Minister stated, “The Muslim community is an integral part of our country and contributes greatly to the rebuilding of our nation. At the same time, our brotherhood has a great history.”

Speaking specifically, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze added that “Georgia is a unique country where Georgian and Azerbaijani, Shiite and Sunni Muslims pray in the same mosque, which is an example of unity in diversity. This tradition of peaceful coexistence and brotherhood is very precious to us, and we prove it with our work to bring communal harmony as well”.

“The state government has handed over 237 mosques to the Muslim community; 20 more are ready to be handed over in the near future as well. Moreover the government has increased the funding of the Muslim community up to 4150000 GEL, and this support will increase even more in the footsteps of economic growth. Georgia’s religious diversity is one of our country’s greatest wealth and it has paid rewards in the form of communal harmony and prosperity. Even today while building the modern Georgian state every group of society, every religious community, and every individual should have the feeling that they are a full participant in this process and for this we the state will do everything in the future,” added the PM.

Iftar is the name of the meal enjoyed by an individual after a day-long fast. It is usually eaten after sunset to break the fast as well. People used to eat dates, water, fruit, or something else in small amounts to break the fast during the Iftar.
