Georgia: Linguistic Research Institute of Ilia State University to hold a scientific conference

The linguistic research institute of the Ilia State University Tbilisi will hold a scientific conference on the topic “Georgian Linguistic Diversity” on October 31 and November 1, 2024. This conference will be dedicated to the 90th birth anniversary of Professor Guram Kartozia.

The linguistic research institute of the Ilia State University Tbilisi will hold a scientific conference on the topic “Georgian Linguistic Diversity” on October 31 and November 1, 2024. This conference will be dedicated to the 90th birth anniversary of Professor Guram Kartozia.

The scientific conference’s organizing committee has received reports on Georgian languages, Georgian linguistic diversity, linguistic documentation of endangered languages, and computer processing.
The main areas of interest of the conference will include (but are not limited to) the following topics:

1. The Phonology, morphosyntax and semantics of Georgian languages
2. Comparative linguistics study of Georgian languages
3. Sociolinguistic aspects of Georgian languages in the modern context
4. Dialectology and variation of Georgian languages in the present time
5. Contact-linguistics of Georgian languages ​​and language change
6. Documenting and describing endangered Georgian languages
7. The ethical component of language documentation
8. Digital tools and resources for developing endangered languages across the country

The important dates and condtions:-
1. The deadline for conference abstract submission is the June 15, 2024
2. Theses (Georgian, English) should respond to the theme of the conference
Moreover, the registration form must contain the following information:
1. Report title, keywords, abstract (abstract should not exceed 800 words including examples and bibliography)
2. Abstracts must be submitted via the Easychair platform. After that, the commission will review and select the reports to be presented at the conference and contact their authors no later than July 15, 2024, Georgian time.

The organiser also said that no changes will be made to these accepted reports after the deadline for these submissions (August 15, 2024). It is also to be added that the abstracts of the reports will be printed in the conference proceedings.

These submission deadlines will be as follows:-

Submission of theses: June 15, 2024
Notification of receipt of report: July 15, 2024
Submission of the final version of theses: August 15, 2024
Working languages: Georgian, English
Time: October 31-November 1 ,2024
