Women Empowerment: Rustavi takes one step forward with a course to train women drivers

Women’s empowerment is one of the current issues across the globe. The Georgian central government as well as local authorities implementing various measures in this direction. The administration of the Rustavi city hall administration has come up with an innovative program to train women as bus drivers. The scheme is being seen as a positive and progressive stop for women’s empowerment.

The Rustavi auto transport enterprise started this course for Rusavi women citizens who want to be drivers, they can submit their applications. The information provided by the enterprise states that the theoretical and practical session will be held to provide training for the conferment of a driving license under category” D.”

The theory course includes both bus driving basics, traffic rules, and safety instructions study whereas in the practical training the participants will take lessons in driving and maneuvering the bus both in a closed square and in the city. The attendee of the course will also get the training on the first aid. After the successful completion of the course the certificate will be awarded.

Women with D-category driving licenses will be able to get job in the public as well as private sector. The fifteen-day training begins on May 20, 2024. Interested women have to fulfill the following conditions to avail of the benefits of the course:
1. Must be a citizen of Georgia
2. resident of Rustavi municipality
3. Minimum age must be 24 years
4. has a “B” category driver’s license

Moreover the participants will need to provide proof of at least 1 year of experience driving a light vehicle. She did not have significant traffic violations (accidents, drunken driving, etc.) in the past. She is ready to complete the training course and take the relevant driving license test.

The list of documents required to apply for the course is as follows:
1. copy of identity card
2. Copy of category B driver’s license
The application can submitted through the Facebook page of the transport enterprise or on the official website of Rustavi Municipality. The EBRD is providing the financial support for program.Rustavi mayor Nino Latsabidze urges women to get the maximum benefits of the scheme.
