Pankisi Valley Georgia: Combination of culture, heritage, and natural beauty

The Pankisi Valley Georgia is a wonderful place to see in Georgia. This is a tourist destination where one can have a glimpse of Georgian cultural values, rich heritage, and folk arts in the lap of nature and enjoy the adventurous activites.

 

The valley is surrounded by lush green forest hills making it great attractive for the lover of natural greenery. The valley located just between the Greater Caucasus mountains and the Alazani Valley wine region of country is the also called the center of Kist populations

 

Kists have their own culture, language, and customs. The area is also close to the Batsara Nature Reserve and Tusheti protected areas.  Moreover, the distance from Tbilisi is 2 to 3 hours away.  The tourist who wants to stay for the night should not worry as the valley has many hotels and guest houses that can be booked online. However, the Nazy’s guest house is the most preferred accommodation in the valley.

The PVTDA(Pankisi Valley Tourism and Development Association) is a nongovernment organization that has been established to promote sustainable rural tourism here and making many efforts for this purpose.  Many things are for the travel that should not be missed. Georgia is called the home of natural wine. Wine lovers can taste the Kisturi Ludi also called Kist Bear here.

The surprising visit will be to the St. George church being maintained by the Kists community out of love. The tourist will be mesmerized to see the centuries-old houses. Houses made of timber have beautiful carved balconies and windows all of which have been decorated with flowers.

 

Adventure lovers can enjoy horseback riding as well as mountain biking. recently some areas have been earmarked for the hiking enthusiast as well. Alazani river basin can be explored by foot or mountain bikes. Moreover the facility of activities like fishing, Kayaking, and tyre rafting can be availed here too.

 

The World War Two memorial is also a place not to miss if you are on the visit to this place. The Sufi Zikr Ceremony can be watched every Friday at the Duisi Mosque. This is an ancient spiritual rite performed with chanting, singing, clapping, etc.

 

Many travel companies offer a budget-friendly tour package to the place. Recently a company “Georgica Vovage” came with a tour package to the valley. This trip will go on May 12. However, this will be a specific culinary tour but it will be a great journey.
