Internal Affairs Ministry informs public about ongoing investigation at Home Ministry

Georgia: The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia informs the public about the ongoing investigation at the Home Ministry, which is out of high public interest.

According to the public, the police arrested six people on May 8-9 for crimes committed during recent demonstrations, including attacks on a police officer and damage to an object.

According to the court’s decision, the prosecutor’s office has charged all six detainees, and they are in preliminary custody.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs will not name the person whose name will now be disclosed to the public in order to protect personal data.

Among the detainees, one of the persons says in his testimony to law enforcement that on April 16, he was at a protest rally, during which he heard political leaders, in particular Nikanor Melia, Aleko Elisashvili, Nika Gvaramia, Giorgi Vashadze, Zurab Japaridze, and another man unknown to him, say that they paid young people in exchange for certain tasks. They sure have grown up to the money.

The detainee claims that he voluntarily went to the man with the mentioned political leaders and expressed his willingness to do the task they had instructed him to do in exchange for money.

According to the defendant, he immediately received money from the tasking persons, 1200 Gel.

The accused also alleges that his primary task was to insult, annoy, provoke, draw attention to the police officers, and damage various police infrastructure.

The man admits to performing the task, which footage shows, and damaging the patrol department’s balance vehicle.

According to him, after the car was damaged, he uploaded a video of the violent act on one of the social networks, namely Instagram. It is worth noting that this was also part of the assignment.

The Internal Affairs Ministry published the video recorded with the consent of the detainee, part of the testimony, where the defendant records everything himself, on their official Facebook page.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs continues to investigate and once again states that law enforcers will respond accordingly to each unlawful act.
