Georgia participates in Cannes International Film Festival, in France

The Republic of Georgia participated in the Cannes Internal Film Festival being held in France. The 77th Cannes Film Festival is being held from May 14 to 25, 2024.

Paris: The Republic of Georgia participated in the Cannes Internal Film Festival being held in France. The 77th Cannes Film Festival is being held from May 14 to 25, 2024. The Georgian pavilion has been established with the help of the Ministry of Culture and Sports along with the national wine agency and LLC “Produce in Georgia.”

The purpose of Georgian participation is to present the richest heritage of Georgian cinema, presentation of the new projects, and promote Georgia as the most important country for filmmaking in Eastern Europe.

A number of the Georgian producers and directors are participating in the event. This will provide the opportunity to Georgian filmmakers to have international collaboration. Moreover the Georgian film directors and producers will also have an opportunity to learn new skills which will be beneficial for the upliftment of the Georgian cinema.

Similarly the producer, directors and other interested persons can have a deep understanding of the Georgian cinema and may have utilized the knowledge the produce the film on Geogia’s rich history and culture.
In past the National Cinema Center of Georgia announced a competition for financing the screening of full-length feature films at the Cannes International Film Festival in March. This will include “Citizen of Saint”by director Tinatin Kajrishvili and producer Lasha Khalvashi. The film has won several international awards.

Georgian delegation in Cannes is being led by Koba Khubunaia, acting director of the National Cinema Center. The delegation had already held meetings with international filmmakers, representatives of distribution companies, international film organizations, and foundations. At the same time work meetings are planned with producers, companies, cinema artists, online portals, and representatives of international film festivals. Projects will be planned, which will attract foreign investments in Georgia.

It is worth to mention also that at the festival it is planned to advertise/popularize Georgia as an attractive country for filmmakers across the globe.

Georgian and European cinema have had a close relationship for decades and deepening this relationship will make the Georgian cinema scope wide and more accessible as well.
