Georgia: The development of rural and agricultural areas is especially important for the country’s sustainable and inclusive economic growth.

The Agriculture and Rural Development Strategy 2021-2027 is a comprehensive plan that harnesses agriculture’s potential and addresses existing challenges. The strategy’s action plan for 2024-2027 was meticulously crafted based on current experience and a thorough analysis of the situation.

The total cost of the project implementation is 4 276 021 657 GEL, out of which 4 155 293 570 GEL are allocated under the appropriate allocations of the state budget of Georgia. Additionally, 118 868 087 GEL has been secured through the generous contributions of donor organizations and international partners, ensuring the project’s financial stability.

Georgia Agriculture and Rural Development Strategy 2021-2027 Action Plan 2024-2027 has three main objectives:

• Promotion of competitive agricultural and non-agricultural sectors, which in turn means raising awareness among farmers, development of agri- and non-agriculture value chains, and significant measures for rural and farming employees such as market diversification, integration of farmers/ entrepreneurs in the market, Samuel Improve oration systems, develop infrastructure in rural areas and increase access to services;

• Sustainable use of natural resources, conservation of ecosystems, adapting to climate change, which includes critical environmental tasks, such as promoting the development of ecotourism, preserving agrobiodiversity, sustainable use of forest resources, promoting the adoption of energy-efficient and renewable energy technologies and practices;

• Establishing effective systems for food/animal feed safety, veterinary, and plant protection, which means approximating EU legislation regulating Georgian sanitary and phytosanitary standards, ensuring compliance of products supplied to local and export markets with sanitary and phytosanitary standards, and Strengthening fertilizers and guaranteeing the quality of agricultural production.

The draft action plan for 2024-2027 was meticulously developed through the collaborative efforts of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture. The esteemed Interagency Council subsequently approved it for Agriculture and Rural Development.

The Environment Protection and Agriculture ministries, regional development and infrastructure, economy and sustainable development, and education, science, and Youth carry out and implement Plan 88 activities.
