Giorgi Amilakhvari, the Georgian minister of education, youth, and science policies in yesterday’s session of the Parliament spoke about the newly introduced policies . He was speaking in the format of the minister’s hour during speech before the deputies in the Parliament of Georgia.

It is to be added that during the speech the minister summarized the implemented and current projects in the direction of education, science, and youth policy. He also talked about many other topics, which include:
1. The growing budget of the education system, which reached an unprecedented level of 2.51 billion GEL in 2024
2. Strengthening of ethnic minorities at preschool and general education level
3. Making research-based decisions in the process of education policy planning
4. Approval of the new document of national goals of general education
5. Revision of all subject standards implementation of professional educational programs in schools
There was also an unprecedented increase in the salary of teachers which means an average increase of 500 GEL for all teachers with the status of public school teachers. In 2023 the National Teacher’s Day and the National Prize were established and 11 teachers received the National Teacher’s Prize and a monetary award of 10,000 GEL in the same year.

It is worth mentioning that with doubling the number of scholarship recipients and the amount of the state scholarship since implementation, every month, 5000 successful students receive a scholarship of 300 GEL instead of 150.

Minister further said that according to the decision of the Government of Georgia, debt relief for students whose status has been suspended due to financial debt of up to 30 million GEL was waived off to 27,000 students.

Allowing distance learning in the education system has benefitted a large number of students, according to the minister as well.
At the same time, conducting “Studfest 2024” was also a great event. Under the framework of this scheme, almost 20,000 students from 54 universities took part in various activities. Similarly, the graduate Internship Program will begin in September 2024, and more than 3,000 graduates will undergo paid internships in state agencies.
