Tbilisi: A city based non-governmental organisation namely “Rights Georgia” have come forward in favour of public sector employees. These employees blamed government for hurling threats as they have protested decision to suspend European integration process until year 2028.

While taking to social media handles the NGO shared details about this recent development. The official Facebook page of NGO stated, “Rights Georgia will protect the interests of public sector employees. For the third day, political figures have been threatening and pressuring those employed in the state sector who have publicly distanced themselves from the Georgian government’s decision to suspend the European integration process until 2028.”

It is worth note that Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze, in a press conference on yesterday added, I would like to remind you that the self-cleaning process has become very interesting. We were watching everyone’s actions and we will react.

On other hand the Mayor of Tbilisi on Sunday while reacting to statement of by some of the City Hall employees added that, the employee should not cross their duty in any situation.

It is also to be noted that, according to Georgian legislation and international law, political pressure, persecution as well as any kind of harassment of public sector employees is prohibited.

The fact that employees of public services are threatened with disciplinary liability and dismissal from their jobs solely for the implementation of Article 78 of the Constitution of Georgia is particularly alarming.

Notably this non-government organisation “Rights Georgia” assesses such statements by high-ranking political figures as a threat and calls on representatives of government and state agencies to protect the rights and freedoms guaranteed by law for public sector employees.

While urging the public sector employee to resist any such pressure office call on public sector employees to contact  in case of pressure, intimidation, or discrimination to legally protect their rights.

The NGO was flag bearers for protection of human rights in past years as well. It has already extended unconditional services to all protestors who demanded to repeal foreign agents law.
