Georgia: Nino Tandilashvili, the First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, held a permanent meeting.
The representatives of the Head of Government Administration, National Security Council, Emergency Management Service, Regional Development and Infrastructure, and the Ministries of Economy and Sustainable Development attended the consultative working meeting.
“The meeting aims to present the results and planned activities under the multifaceted program funded by the Green Climate Fund, co-financed by the Swedish and Swiss governments, to the attending community. UN Development Program will become the national partner for implementing the program,” Nino Tandilashvili expresses her views.
She mentioned, “This is one of the largest programs currently being implemented in Georgia. It includes measures to reduce the risk of disasters caused by climate change and the development of early warning systems in Georgia.”
“The project’s beneficiaries are different agencies and ministries involved in the program’s implementation process,” – said Nino Tandilashvili, the First Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture.
The meeting’s aim was to provide information on the work carried out by the National Agency for Environment and Agriculture specialists on natural hazards assessment throughout the country and to share information obtained and processed within the project with different agencies.
At the working meeting, representatives of the UN Development Programme introduced beneficiary organizations to the ongoing and planned activities within the project, taking into account the roles of the relevant authorities, aimed at effectively implementing the early warning system.
During the meeting, discussions were held around all system components, including climate threat and risk information, threat monitoring and forecasting, message dissemination and communication, local preparedness, response, and capacity enhancement.
The mentioned meeting was held within the framework of the ongoing project supported by the Government of Georgia and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Green Climate Fund, the Swiss Development and Cooperation Agency (SDC), and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency(SIDA).
The program aims to reduce the risk of floods, landslides, and other hydrometeorological and geological disasters caused by climate change and maximize the protection of population and infrastructure.
