Tbilisi: Nino Tandilashvivli, The First Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture, inaugurated the first forum held on the New water resources management law. The forum was held in Zugdidi City, Georgia. The meeting aimed to introduce the new law of water resources management.
During her meeting with the Representatives of the local self-government, business and non-governmental sectors of Samegrelo-Upper Svaneti region Municipality, she provided detailed information about the area of the meeting. She also answered the question of the representative of this municipality.
Minister Nino Tandilashvili, speaking further, said that the adoption of the new law on the management of water resources is very significant and vital. Moreover, this will be a step further taken by the Georgian Government under the Obligation of Agenda of the European Union association.
Additionally, she said that” our country always awaits the historic decision making , importance is always given to the fundamental reforms towards the proper water resources management. The water resources are very precious, and laws for their protection are expected to come into effect from the year 2026.”.
As per the available information law will involve the Government of local units of administration, including the Municipalities, in the process of lawmaking for the management of water resources across the country.
The meeting also discussed the principles, objectives and virtues that will bring a dramatic change to water resources mangement in the country.
The minister added that this kind of meeting will also be held in many other parts of the country. This will facilitate the local administration to share their views on the new law for water resoursed protection.
This forum was organised under the joint project of (the United States Agency for Development), an economic Governance program and Non-Governmental organisation’s “Environmental and Development”, “promoting the implementation of water resources management law requirement and awareness in Municipality of Georgia”.
It is to be specifically mentioned that the Parliament of Georgia, in the year 2023, passed the new law on water resources management. That law was developed by the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture.
It is worth mentioning that that law considers the important changes in the field of water resources.
The Ministry of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia and other agencies are actively working to provide basic information about the new water management laws for the local Government.
