Georgia: The issues of waste management, climate change and irrigation system development were discussed by the First Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture, Nino Tandilashvili and the new Regional Director of the European Reconstruction and Development Bank (EBRD) in South Caucasus, Alkis Vrienios Drakinosi.
At the meeting of introductory character, the conversation also touched on the prospects of future cooperation between the parties.
Nino Tandilashvili congratulated the new regional director of EBRD in the South Caucasus on the start of his work and wished him success.
“We work fruitfully in different directions with the European Reconstruction and Development Bank, which has great experience. I want to focus a special attention on cooperation with waste management. We have an ongoing project on hazardous waste management. This project is very important because it will remind you that hazardous waste management is linked to public health, environmental protection, and agricultural activities. Hence, effective hazardous waste management in the country and the sharing of international best practices is crucial. Working actively with our team; had some challenges but we did our best to overcome them and today progress is going well. On the one hand, this is a national issue, and on the other hand, it is important in terms of fulfilling the obligations on the road to European integration. We are open to new opportunities and partnerships. We hope that in the future our cooperation with the Bank for Reconstruction and Development of Europe will strengthen even more”, – said Nino Tandilashvili.
The new Regional Director of the European Reconstruction and Development Bank (EBRD) Alkis Vrienios Drakinosi has expressed his support to Georgia and focused special attention on future cooperation issues.
The meeting was attended by EBRD Associate Director Tea Melikadze and EBRD Regional Head for Climate Affairs Konstantine Kintsurashvili.
