Tbilisi: Nino Tsilosani, chair of the agrarian issues committee and the gender equality council of Georgia met with the ambassador of Norway, Bergamot Hovland. They discussed the various aspects of the bilateral relationship between both countries.
It is to be specifically mentioned that the meeting was dedicated to deliberating the cooperation aspects between the countries emphasising gender equality and agriculture development in Georgia and Norway.
Nino Tsilosani stated that “Norway is one of the main contributors to the donor organisations that operate in Georgia in the field of gender equality and co-financing of the UN-women project. The UN-women project is directed to various projects derived from the Government of Norway.
Gender equality is a priority of our policy and our cooperation in this direction is crucial. We discussed Georgia’s achievements in gender equality terms and agreed on further activities, Nino Tsilosani added.
According to the chair agriculture is yet another direction of cooperation. She also said that agriculture is the backbone of the country and measures will be taken to make the country self-reliant in agricultural production.
She also added “ During the bilateral talks we have touched upon organic production and innovative technologies in the agriculture sector of the country. It is noteworthy that Norway has a rich experience in aquaculture which is of high importance for Georgia. Moreover it is also paramount that Georgian wine is successfully exported to Norway and the Georgian government aspires always to keep focused on this direction and support the Georgian wine-makers”.
During the meeting the parties also agreed on further activities to facilitate the Greek MPs’ sharing of the knowledge and experience of their Norwegian colleagues in agriculture policy and reforms.
The Norway ambassador also congratulated Georgia for the grant of candidate status by the European Council. According to the Ambassador Norway is always ready to extend the desired help to Georgia for the development of the agricultural sector.
