Tbilisi: Otar Shamugia the Georgian Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture recently met with the farmers who are the owners of the Greenhouse farms. The Minister during the meeting with these farmers also discussed various aspects of the development of the greenhouse farms in other parts as well.
The meeting discussed many other issues which included the various opportunities and challenges in the production of annual crops. Minister Otar Shamugia speaking on the occasion also said that “The Ministry of environment protection and Agriculture have been implementing many projects to support the farmers in many directions to uplift their crop production.”
He also added, “The main objective of the our ministry is introduce the measurs for supporting the production of Georgian agricultural products as much as possible. These measurs will ensures growth of the local market as well as the exploitation of the export markets in other countries of the region and world.”
Minister while expressing his own views in this regard said that “I would like to ensure that all the support for the projects will be extended after due discussion with the farmers of the sector. Moreover the discussion will also discuss the plans that will be tailored as per the demand of the farmers and entrepreneurs.”
It is also to be noted that there are number of state programs which are currently being implemented by the Ministry in the direction of the creation and development of greenhouse farms to mitigate the adverse effects of the green house gases. This also includes the pilot program for the promotion of agricultural production for women, the support to farmers growing crops in greenhouse farms will also continue within the framework of preferential agro-credit system .
The minister advised the participants of the meeting to encourage the other farmers for adoption of the greenhouse farming techniques. The greenhouse farming is the type of farming in which the crops are grown under the green shelters. The farms are covered with transparent or semi-transparent material.
These types of the farm houses are built to provide a conducive environment to the crops and minimize the negative effects of the hard climatic conditions as well. The participants of the meeting thanked the Ministry of environment protection and Agriculture for efforts in the direction of greenhouse farming.
