Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze along with President Mikheil Kavelashvili reviewed ongoing work of snow removing. They paid special attention to snowfall caused problems in Imereti.
The Prime Minister while taking to his social media handle also shared updates about these latest developments. PM stated on official Facebook page, “Together with President Mikheil Kavelashvili, I got acquainted with the ongoing measures and challenges to solve the problems caused by heavy snowfall in Imereti region.”
The PM further added that, “Today I have met with the Coordination staff and got detailed information on road clearing works and existing needs. Road clearing works in the region are actively underway, but there are still a few villages in the high area where access is still not possible. For this purpose, the decision was made to mobilize additional special equipment in the region at the headquarters meeting.”
As per the information during the interview, it was noted that as soon as the roads are cleared, electricity and gas restoration work will begin for subscribers whose services are not provided due to the heavy snowfall at this stage.
The electricity supply for most subscribers is disconnected in Samtredia and Vani municipalities. As a result of the work carried out last night, electricity has been restored to 6,000 subscribers, and by the end of the day, electricity in the region will be on. Intensive work will continue to restore electricity in Vani Municipality, where electricity is not provided to up to 6 thousand subscribers.
To solve the problems caused by heavy snowfall in the region in the shortest possible time, all relevant authorities both at central and local levels are mobilized. Défense Forces, Emergency Management Service and Emergency Medical Brigade are actively involved in the process.
As I mentioned, the headquarters in Imereti is mobilized, the situation is relatively difficult in 5 municipalities. There are several closed villages where communication is not possible. Generally, there are quite a few villages where communication is limited, but the local government and emergency services are trying their best to enter the villages.
There is also a problem with electricity supply in many other areas however, the work is progressing at a rapid pace and many subscribers have already had electricity supply. Conditions are still difficult at many locations, but work is going on intensively and the situation is improving hourly.
