Irakli Kobakhidze, the Prime Minister of Georgia attended an event dedicated to the victory of the Battle of Didgori. He was accompanied by many other key figures of Government and the armed forces.
The battle was fought between the Armies of Georgia and the Seljuk empires at Didgori  which is almost 40 kilometers away from the capital city of Tbilisi.
The battle was fought almost 903 years ago. Every year, people gather to remember the martyrs of the battle. Prime Minister Kobakhidze was accompanied by the Minister of Defense Irakli Chikovani, Commander of the Defense Forces Major General Giorgi Matiashvili, Metropolitan Anania of Manglisi  and Tetritskaro Diocese.
The day is declared as a public holiday dedicated to the victory in the Battle of Didgori. The occasion was also graced by the esteemed presence of official representatives of the government  and members of defense forces were also present.
The Prime Minister addressed the gathered public and congratulated them on the Didgori holiday.  At the same time  the Minister of Defense drew attention to the importance of the victory in the Didgori battle and awarded eight servicemen with the departmental medal  “Didgori Cross.”
It should be added that the servicemen have been awarded the Departmental Medal of the Ministry of Defense for brave actions during war and combat operations. The medal also recognizes their leadership qualities and bravery in saving the lives of fellow soldiers.
The public holiday “Didgoroba 2024” continued with a theatrical performance by many artists who visited the site to attend the event to pay tribute. The guests invited to the Didgori Memorial could see the exhibition spaces. At the end of the event children dressed in national clothes unfurled the national flag of Georgia.
It is also to be noted that the memorial site has been decorated with the national flag of Georgia. A big stone carved out in the shape of a T(Cross) is also on the memorial. The members of the defense forces   saluted the memorial.
The Prime Minister and the Defence Minister said that the great sacrifice of the martyrs can not be ignored at any cost. Similarly the army officers reiterated their commitment to protecting the country’s national unity, integrity, and sovereignty.
