The officials and staff of the Poti city hall visited the fish processing plant on December 30 2023, located under its jurisdiction. They visited to persuade the plant management to stop the process and relocate to any other place away from the dense population.
It is to be specifically mentioned that as per the proposal between the municipalities and plant management, it was proposed to stop the production process during the New Year period; however, despite the agreement, one of the factories continues the work process even now.
As per the proposal almost all the plant management were ready to relocate to another place because it was not safe to have the fish processing plant near the population as it may cause many problems for the local residents, including health issues as well.
It is noteworthy that there was a huge public anger against the fish processing plant as it was causing many trobule in their daily life. At the same time, it was also causing some health-related problems for the residents.
As per the national and many international regulations, it is unhealthy to establish the fish procession or any other meat procession plant near residential areas to prevent any damage to health, etc.
To meet the demand of local people, the municipality of Poti has come up with a proposal under which existing processing units will be shifted outside the residential places; moreover, no permission would be given to establish any new fish or meat processing unit.
As the municipality authorities stated “Here we would like to point out that it is important for all of us that an enterprise of similar specifications should not be located close to a densely populated population in order to minimise the inconvenience caused by the production process. Accordingly, in agreement with the owners of the fish factory, namely “BMB” LLC, on March 8 street, we started the work process regarding the transfer of the factory to an alternative land”.
As per the further information, “the municipality of Poti is ready to use all the opportunities provided by the law to promote this process, and we hope that the management of the “BMB” company will continue to act accordingly and will shift their plant from populated areas to any alternative place”.
Meanwhile, locals expressed their happiness over the decision of the municipality to shift the fish processing unit outside the residential areas. They also termed this as a a historic decision that will make the local environment safer for residents, and it will also be beneficial for the healthy environment in these localities.
Social media user also lauds the decsion of the authorities one user Inga Inga commented “It’s so good that they solve this problem, I hope they won’t move those factories to Nabad”.
