Tbilisi, Georgia: The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has charged and arrested two persons for group trafficking against a helpless person on February 6, 2025, Thursday.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia conducted an investigation and found that the defendants beat a helpless victim with mental and physical health problems and sexually exploited her. They also appropriated the money received from the exploitation.
It is to be added that the problem of Human trafficking has become very serious in the present scenario. Many regional conflicts in developed and least developed along with developing countries have caused wide-scale migration. When victims of conflict zones do not have the proper platform for migration to the safest places, they become victims at the hands of Human Traffickers.
It should be further noted that the prosecution service of Georgia charged both individuals under Article 143, Part 2, Subparagraphs “b” and Part 3, Subparagraphs “d” and “e” of Part 3, Subparagraphs “d” and “e” of Part 2, Subparagraph “e” of Part 1 of Article 143 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (trafficking in persons committed by a group by prior agreement, with the threat of violence dangerous to life and health against a vulnerable person), which provides for a term of imprisonment of 12 to 15 years.
It is worth mentioning that a huge number of people lost their lives during these dangerous journeys. At the international level, many Human rights organizations have already launched several Events to Spread awareness of the illegal way of migration at the hands of Human traffickers.
At the request of the Prosecutor’s Office, the court has already imposed pretrial detention on both defendants. The investigation into the criminal case is ongoing.
