Levan loseliani, the public defender of Georgia on Monday visited social housing centre in Gori. The public defender during his visit reviews condition of person living there and assure to provide every possible assistance for improvement.
It is worth mentioning that, the public defender Levan loseliani during this visit was accompanied by many other representatives of his office. They met with the residents and got acquainted with the current situation there.
Notably many complaints were received by defender office that, “People have been living in degrading conditions in the Gori social housing for years. Although there is a slight improvement in conditions compared to last year, this does not change the catastrophic picture, which is worst than any part of country and need immediate attention.”
In addition to the infrastructure and hygiene problems, the situation is also complicated by the fact that the methadone program service is operating in the housing building. In this methadone program service centre more than 80 families, including more than 60 children are living. Residents have been demanding the transfer of the service for many years.
“Once again, I call on the government and responsible state agencies to pay attention to the people living in the Gori social housing, and to urgently take care of their placement in other housing, in decent conditions,” the Public Defender stated during his visit there.
The Public Defender spoke with the State Representative of Shida Kartli, Levan Kharabadze regarding the current situation in the Gori social housing. The public defender expressed his anger on poor hygienic conditions and ordered care takers of centre to take immediate steps to maintain cleanliness.
On the other hand resident of centre said that they has raised their concern about security, cleanliness many times. At the end of his visit Public Defender assured all person of centre that he will raises this issues with higher authorities. He further assured that steps will be taken to improve living conditions of person living in this centre as well.
