Georgia: Environment Protection and Agriculture Ministry holds meeting on implementation of environmental obligations

Georgia: The Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture held another official meeting on the implementation of environmental obligations under the legislation on ambient air protection.

The meeting was attended by representatives of cement enterprises.

The Minister of Environment and Agriculture, Otar Shamugia, noted that the obligations set by the legislation must be fulfilled and that the Ministry will continue continuous monitoring for the effective implementation of the regulations.

The meeting discussed in detail the process of installation of continuous monitoring systems for air emissions in enterprises. The conversation focused on the challenges that enterprises face in implementing the requirements of the regulation.

It was noted that each entrepreneur would present a specific schedule in the near future, within which time the self-monitoring systems will be installed in the enterprises.

From June 1, 2021, in accordance with the legislative change, large industrial enterprises were instructed to introduce a system of continuous automatic self-monitoring of emissions and provide relevant information to the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture.

With the legislative change, the penalties for non-use or non-use of the air-tightening system and violation of environmental conditions for excessive emissions from industrial facilities have been significantly increased.

In the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture, sectoral meetings on the fulfilment of environmental obligations under the legislation on ambient air protection are planned in the future.
