Prevention and control of non-communicable diseases in Georgia were discussed at forum

A multi-sectoral forum called "It's time to make decisions - prevention and control of non-communicable diseases in Georgia", which was held at "Sheraton Metekhi Pala", Tbilisi, aims to start a high-level dialogue for the establishment of a full-scale system of prevention and control of non-communicable diseases (NCD).

A multi-sectoral forum called “It’s time to make decisions – prevention and control of non-communicable diseases in Georgia”, which was held at “Sheraton Metekhi Pala”, Tbilisi, aims to start a high-level dialogue for the establishment of a full-scale system of prevention and control of non-communicable diseases (NCD).

At the joint forum of the Health Protection and Social Affairs Committee of the Parliament, IDPs from Occupied Territories, the Ministry of Labor, Health and Social Protection, and the World Health Organization, they discussed the project of the action plan for the non-communicable diseases investment package and the national strategy for promoting physical activity developed with the technical assistance of donors.

The issue of potential interventions for the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases was analyzed from an economic and political point of view. as well as the risk factors of the mentioned diseases. The main achievements and challenges of the state health promotion program focused on the prevention of non-communicable diseases were discussed.

“Knowledge accumulated by our ancestors, scientific analysis of mistakes made, sharing of modern, successful experience, professional dialogue based on arguments, unity of continuous education and perfection, supra political service in the field of life and health, raising public awareness are the most important ways in the fight against non-communicable diseases,” he said at the opening of the forum.

The forum, which was held with the support of the European Union, was attended by the Minister of IDPs from the occupied territories of Georgia, Labor, Health and Social Protection Zurab Azarashvili, the representative of the World Health Organization in Georgia, Silviu Domente.

Georgian and foreign specialists also participated in the work of the forum through online platforms.
